Mothers have a unique perspective on the world and can bring a fresh and creative approach to business.
In recent years, we have seen a significant rise in the number of women—and mothers—who are starting their own businesses. This Mother’s Day, we thought we’d celebrate Australian mothers who own successful businesses, and encourage mothers who are thinking of starting their own business, to give it a go!
Tammy Hembrow: Owner of the Tammy Fit app & Saski Collection
Tammy Hembrow is a well-known Aussie fitness influencer and entrepreneur. As a mother of three young children, Tammy has successfully built a fitness empire, including her popular fitness app, Tammy Fit, and her activewear brand, Saski Collection. Tammy’s businesses have been incredibly successful, and she has been able to juggle the demands of motherhood while growing her empire. She has talked openly about the challenges of balancing work and family life as a single mother, but emphasises that she has an excellent motivation and morale that keep her going. Tammy is an inspiration to many women – and one of the most famous mums who own a small business.
Emma Isaacs: CEO of Business Chicks
Emma Isaacs is the founder and CEO of Business Chicks. Emma started her business from her bedroom when she was just 18 years old. She has since grown it into a global community of over 500,000 women, with events and online resources aimed at supporting female entrepreneurs. Emma is also a mother of six children and even livestreamed the birth of her youngest son in 2016 – an unmedicated water birth – showing her followers just how strong mothers are!
Julie Stevanja: Co-founder of Her Black Book App
Another inspiring story is that of Julie Stevanja, who launched an app called “Her Black Book,” which provides women with a plethora of discount codes to shop with! Julie proves that being mother of two young children should not stop you from pursuing your business ventures, and doing what you love!
Danielle Michaels and Monique Filer: Co-founders of b.box
Dannielle Michaels and Monique Filer are the co-founders of b.box, an Australian-based company that designs and produces innovative baby products. The idea for b.box came about when Michaels and Filer, both mothers themselves, were frustrated with the lack of functional and practical baby products on the market.
In 2007, they decided to take matters into their own hands and started designing and developing their own products. Their first product, the b.box essential nappy wallet, was a hit, and they quickly expanded their product line to include other baby essentials such as sippy cups, feeding utensils, and diaper bags.
Since its inception, b.box has received numerous awards for its innovative designs, including the Red Dot Design Award and the Good Design Award. Michaels and Filer continue to lead the company, which has become a well-known brand in the baby products industry, with its products sold in over 45 countries around the world.
These women are just a few examples of the many famous mums who own a small business in Australia. They have all faced their fair share of challenges and have had to make sacrifices along the way, but they have also achieved incredible success and have shown that it is possible to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship. Tammy Hembrow, Emma Isaacs, Julie Stevanja, Danielle Michaels and Monique Filer are just a few examples of the many Aussie women who are working towards their dreams in the business world. They are an inspiration to us all and a reminder that with passion, drive, resilience, and support that comes with being a mother – there is great potential to become a successful businesswoman.
