Things to consider when choosing a domain name

Make sure the domain name you pick is related to your business in some way, as it makes it easier for customers to find you. Keep it short, simple and unique like your brand, so that it’s easy to remember.

Where can I get a domain name?

To get your own domain name (website address/URL), simply visit a trusted Australian provider such as:

  • Domain Registration Services
  • Netregistry
  • Crazy Domains.

It’s easy to set up your custom domain name.

Once you have purchased your domain name, you will need to add a CNAME in your DNS to point to littlebig.shop (if you are unsure how to do this, contact your domain hosting provider for assistance).

You will need to add your domain in the custom domain field (this will appear on the bottom of the customer invoice and also on the Contact Us page).

It’s that easy!

FAQs

What is a domain name?

Your domain name is the URL or web address that people find your website or store on. It is the unique address on the internet where people can access your business.

Can I use my own domain name?

You can buy your own domain name if you are subscribed to the ‘Big’ plan, and can do so from your shop’s admin dashboard under the ‘Settings’ menu.

Do I need an ABN to have a custom domain name?

Yes. This is because you can only get a .com.au address if you’re a registered Australian business.

What if I don’t have a custom domain name?

All shops get a domain name with their [shop name] and the .littlebig.shop URL address. Alternatively you can purchase one from a third-party provider.

How do you check if a domain name is taken?

If you are using a Little Big Shop URL, we will let you know immediately if the domain you are looking for is taken. If you are purchasing a domain from a reputable third party provider, then their systems also provide you with immediate feedback as to whether the domain is available or not.

What does it mean if my domain name is taken?

You can look at the domain and see if there is a website that is live. Sometimes businesses purchase domains as they want to protect their brand or may use the domain in the future as part of a strategy that has not been implemented. Finally there are some businesses that purchase the domain to essentially on-sell it.
